MARCELLO DOMENICO GHELARDI
(1948 – 2021)

Marcello Ghelardi was born in Genoa in 1948.

He graduated cum laude in Law at the University of Genoa in 1976 and was admitted to the bar in Genoa in 1978 and subsequently to the special register for patronage before the Court of Cassation and other higher jurisdictions in 1994.

He established the Law Firm GHELARDI & ASSOCIATI in 2001 after having co-founded a pre-existent associated law-firm in 1974.

For over forty years he acted as consultant for the leading Insurance companies in the areas of marine and aviation and he has also been a Professor in aviation insurance law at the University of Genoa.

Profound connoisseur and expert in insurance, maritime, aviation and transportation law, he was highly appreciated for his untiring devotion to the profession, for the human approach and his usual proverbial irony. During his long career he has been involved in the management of some of the most important maritime and aviation casualties/accident and rendered his assistance and services in matters concerning the insurance of goods, hull and machinery, aviation and satellite as well as salvage, maritime losses, general average, logistics, national and international arbitration. He also was involved in important insurance issues concerning private international law among which the fire in the Tunnel of Mont Blanc.

The pragmatic approach in solving the complex technical issues characterising the insurance, shipping and aviation fields and the attention to details still mark out the activity of the Law Firm GHELARDI & ASSOCIATI that proudly follows the course drawn by its founding partner.
